With over 65 screenings and a series of side events, the Motovun hill will once again provide you with an exceptional film experience. The main program includes 21 films, some of which have won acclaim on reputable world festivals while others are less known films that would otherwise hardly find the way to our audience. This year we have Finland as a guest. In addition to an insight into recent Finnish cinema we will have a chance to have through the New Finnish Film program, two concerts will also present us Finnish musical scene.

Motovun - "Recession Style!"

Zagreb, 1 July - Twenty five days before the opening, Motovun Film Festival has presented this year's program. Our audience will have a chance to enjoy a new treat of independent films from 27-31 July on the lovely Motovun hill in the heart of Istria.

Motovun will once again be a challenge for the toughest ones - 65 screenings in five days is not an easy task. I think we have a balanced offer of films that have already gained success on prominent festivals worldwide as well as those that few people have heard about and getting hold of which has required lots of efforts. In addition, there will be five concerts, two exhibitions and a whole array of side events connecting the audience and festival guests, said Festival Director Igor Mirković.

KEN RUSSELL IS COMING TO MOTOVUN!

Zagreb, 20th of July - The biggest news of this year's festival is The Motovun Maverick Award, dedicated to the authors who have placed the film history in their debt by breaking taboos, discarding conventional norms and expanding the limits of film as an art form. The winner of the first Motovun Maverick is the untamable Ken Russell! This wild Messiah of British film belongs to the generation of revolutionaries who were expanding freedom of film art with their works in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Although spectacular and magnificent, many of his films are too provocative even for today.

Japanese horror at Motovun

Zagreb, July 10. 2007. – 13 days until kick-off

We're getting closer and closer to this year's Motovun Film Festival, which will host a retrospective of the new wave of the Japanese horror movies. This widely famous wave splashed upon the movie industry, soaking everything from the movie theaters to video-store shelves. As opposed to the tragic faith of the characters in the movies, it revived the genre.

The retrospective of the Japanese horror movies will be focusing on the modern gendai-geki theme, and will host five movies, of which we definitely emphasize the film A page of madness dating from 1926. Teinosuke Kinugase will be presented featuring a silent film narrator benshi Ichiro Kataoka, one of the members of the Matsuda Film Production organization, which is known for archiving and showing Japanese silent films, and also featuring Gerhard Gruber, a pianist and a silent film music composer.

Users are welcome to check out our informal journal of the preparations of the Festival on the festival blog at mff.blog.hr
